THE MILLER’S FIGURE

Mill in CalabriaIn the past, the miller’s profession required strength, experience and mastery of an art that was passed on from father to son.

This figure was primarily a cereal expert with his own grinding secrets.

The work gave him knowledge of hydraulics and mechanics.

Based on the flow of water or the force of the wind, he controlled the rotation of the gears to adjust the speed of the millstones.

These activities have been lost or industrialized over the years, but there are still places that have remained true to these ancient traditions.

SAN FLORO

It is a small village nestled in the green hills and intense blue of the Ionian Sea. The view from the small village square is breathtaking. This village is known for the creativity of its inhabitants, who have rediscovered the beauty of old traditions.

ANYWAYS.EXPERIENCE: THE MILL IN CALABRIA

San Floro is located in the center of Calabria, just 15 minutes from the regional capital, Catanzaro.

On a 7 hectare farm, there is a country house, the mill of San Floro.

With the hydraulic wheel that drives the millstones, this mill produces the flour just like it did 100 years ago and uses renewable energy to get everything going.

Our experience dedicated to the sense of touch will take place in this country house.

During this tour, you will understand the entire dynamic behind a mill.

After a short explanation, the workshop “Mani in Pasta” (hands in the dough) will start.
Here, you will get involved in various activities: you will knead bread and discover the secrets of yeast and baking.

After the workshop, there will be a tasting of the unique “Pizze Agricole”, prepared with vegetables from the organic garden and wholemeal flour from the mill.

And of course, the dessert won’t be missing!
