Description

Excursion on Mount Etna from the Sea to the Volcano: a journey through time and space designed to experience two of Catania’s most magical places: the beach of Acitrezza and Mount Etna.

Escursione dall'Etna al MAreThe famous fishing village, so dear to Giovanni Verga, is just a few kilometers from the center of Catania and represents the “cradle” of our beloved volcano.

Right there, even today, after over half a million years, the “sea stacks,” basaltic structures that emerge from the sea, testify to the submarine eruptions of the past that created Etna.

The rocky coast is made up of large blocks of basalt smoothed by the sea, in what was a real battle between water and fire.

Mount Etna, Europe’s highest active volcano, looms to the north of Catania.

At 2000 meters above sea level, the discovery of a nature as wild as it is generous begins, a Mother as severe as she is benevolent to over half a million people always ready to forgive her most devastating eruptions and to enjoy the most spectacular ones.

OUR ANYWAYS EXPERIENCE: ETNA EXCURSION, FROM SEA TO VOLCANO

acitrezzaDanilo, our trusted and experienced guide, is ready to share his passion and knowledge of Etna with you.

The experience will begin in the morning, departing from Catania, to reach Acitrezza in 20-30 minutes. Once you arrive in this wonderful village, you will have the opportunity to get to know the natural environment that unfolds before your eyes.

The sea stacks, Lachea island, the rugged and rough coast: natural aspects that will allow us to begin our story of the island, a story that starts 570,000 years ago.

After getting to know and visiting one of Catania’s most enchanting places, Danilo will guide you to the southern slope of Etna, at an altitude of 2000m. The journey from the sea to the “Muntagna” (mountain) will last about an hour. Muntagna, that’s what the people of Catania call Etna.

In addition to moving through space, during the journey you will also travel through time, discovering the deep bond that ties the people of Catania to Etna. The route will take you to visit the famous Silvestri craters, dedicated to the renowned Florentine scientist Orazio Silvestri, the Calcarazzi mountains, the great crater of 1763, the lava flows from the eruptions of 2001 and 2002: a further journey through time, a little over 250 years of history come to light around us.

The excursion will be accompanied by a tasting of local products to savor the flavors of Etna. A convivial moment in front of the best arancino that can be tasted in Catania and province is the best way to conclude an experience that embraces the five senses and that, who knows, perhaps makes you want to return here once again, in the hope of experiencing an eruption!

Alternatively, it is possible to organize the tour in the afternoon as well, to enjoy the magic of a sunset on Etna.
