Description

The green gold of Sicily

Bronte pistachioThe Bronte pistachio is a 100% Sicilian specialty, and one of Italy’s most famous and demanded as well.

Also known as green gold, Bronte pistachio is a true treasure.

In fact, on the slopes of Mount Etna there grow unique varieties. These are among the finest in the world, such as the Neapolitan and the White ones.

The pistachio DOP is grown only in Bronte, in the province of Catania.

The shape is elongated, the outer part is a bright purple colour, and the inner part is emerald green. The scent is delicate and the taste is persistent. These are the characteristics of the Bronte DOP green Pistachio, famous all over the world, since ancient times.

The Bronte culture and the cultivation of pistachio are closely linked. Only by deepening the knowledge about traditions of the small town in the province of Catania, is it possible to discover the secrets behind the cultivation of this fruit.

By seeing with one’s own eyes the efforts around its collection and production, it is possible to understand why it has become so valuable and requested.

The pistachio harvest takes place in September and to preserve the quality of the fruit, it only happens every other year.

The Bronte area produces about 1% of the world pistachio production and each tree grows about 20 kilograms every other year.
