Description

GAVI, PIEDMONT

The “Truffle Search” experience takes place in Gavi, Piedmont, in the province of Alessandria.

Gavi is a small village, but rich in history. It is about 40km from Alessandria, 60km from Genoa and 140km from Turin.

Surrounded by a variety of medieval villages, fortresses, castles, vineyards and forests, this place enjoys a strategic location.
Culture, history and architecture of this village with around 4,500 inhabitants are characterized by neighboring towns.

THE TRUFFLE

Truffle is the common name for hypogeal mushrooms, valuable and relatively rare.

They grow spontaneously in the soil near the roots of oaks, holm oaks, hazelnuts, poplars and other plants that allow their development. The rarity of truffles is related to the fact that their growth depends on geographical, ecological and seasonal factors.

The truffle was sought-after and appreciated already at the time of the Renaissance courtyards, and in its two variants, white (more precious) and black, it is an outstanding advertisement for Bel-Paese gastronomy.

The fragrance and the taste of truffles are combined with many regional recipes.
