    EN PLEIN AIR

    En Plein air Painting Workshop

    With the word en plein air – from the French “in the open air” – we refer to experiencing painting and drawing in the landscape, in the open air.

    Between 700 and 800 Italy was the focus of an important chapter in art history. Artists from all over Europe came to Italy to study the ancient ruins and the masterpieces of the Renaissance Masters: it is the period of the Grand Tour and the Journey to Italy, an essential training opportunity for every artist.

    The painters who arrived in Italy were impressed by the beauty of the landscape and the extraordinary Mediterranean light.

    So they decided to leave their ateliers and start painting en plein air, in the open air, in direct contact with nature. In this way, changing vision and painting techniques, a research process started. This opened up to more innovative and modern solutions.

    The wonderful places portrayed in the paintings are sometimes the image of an Italy never seen before, revealed for the first time by these foreign painters.

    ANYWAYS EXPERIENCE: EN PLEIN AIR, PAINTING WORKSHOP

    Artists from all over Europe came to the Nera Valley (between Terni and Narni). They immortalized well-known as well as unknown locations and made them famous. (Paintings gallery)

    The works are now preserved in museums and collections all over the world. In these places and following the footsteps of the great Masters of Time, this anyways experience will take place.
    It’s time dedicated to the sense of sight, observation and interpretation.

    Led by an experienced painter, you will follow the journey of great European artists and reproduce a painting.

    The experience lasts a day. A tasting of typical products as well as the necessary materials complete the offer.
