White like the snow-capped peaks of the mountains, green like the rolling hills of the hinterland, blue like the beautiful sea. This is Abruzzo: a land to discover.
Abruzzo is one of the richest region in terms of nature, which makes the diversity of the landscapes and the abundance of animals its strengths.
This area offers 3 national parks, numerous protected marine areas and about 75% of the animal and plant species of the entire European continent.
And it is in this naturalistic environment that our tour takes place.
OUR ANYWAYS EXPERIENCE: WITH A DONKEY ON THE GRAN SASSO
If you want to escape the stress of the city, the fast-paced job and daily chores, a complete immersion in nature is what you need!
During this tour, which pays homage to the beauty of the Abruzzo landscapes, you will take part in a donkey trekking activity, a “slow tourism” experience where times are only those of nature.
The activity consists in walking with pack animals on the Gran Sasso, on a total of about 12 km long path that goes from Santo Stefano di Sessanio to Rocca Calascio.
A walk through fields, mule tracks, alleys, arches and squares.
On the go you can:
– visit Rocca Calascio,
this medieval castle ruin is located at an altitude of 1,460 meters and is known as location for the films “Ladyhawke” and “The Name of the Rose”
– taste typical local products,
– discover the impressive village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio,
a picturesque, award-winning place at 1251 meters
– visit a farm.
The excursion with a height difference of max. 250 meters is not difficult and is also suitable for children from 3 years.
All participants will be able not only to lead the donkeys but also to get to know them better and enter into a relationship with them.
In addition to keeping company, donkeys can help carry backpacks and children to make the walk easier and more enjoyable.
