THE CHESTNUT TREE AND ITS CHESTNUTS

THE CHESTNUTS OF VIOLA CASTELLOHere is it, the majestic chestnut tree, the undisputed giant of the woods.

Chestnuts have many useful properties and have positive effects on our well-being. They support the functioning of the intestine, circulation and nervous system. They also recharge energy, help the gut, fight anemia and cholesterol.

ANYWAYS.EXPERIENCE: THE CHESTNUTS OF VIOLA CASTELLO, IN PIEDMONT

This experience is a taste eexperience dedicated to chestnuts.
Our journey begins in the fairytale landscape of Viola Castello, the “Borgo delle Castagne” (chestnut village). Surrounded by 15 hectars of chestnut grove with trees that are several hundred years old, you follow a learning path about the Garessina chestnut: sweet, tender and, according to many experts, the best dry chestnut ever.

This chestnut grove is located in the Mongia Valley, a small valley next to the main valley of Tanaro, in the middle of a natural amphitheater surrounded by mountains.
These gentle slopes mark the passage between the Langhe in Piedmont and the Ligurian Alps.

During this tour, you will learn as to why this tree is also called “albero del pane” (bread tree) and take part in one of the two following activities:

  • in spring, the CHESTNUT TREE TREATMENT: grafting, from theory to practice
  • in autumn, the CHESTNUT COLLECTION: you can take home 2kg of chestnuts!

The experience ends in the “Scau”, an original drying room from the 19th century made of stone and wood.
Here, the chestnuts dry following the old farming tradition: “Fire, smoke and magic” for 40 days!

The tour is accompanied by a small tasting of chestnut products.

Spend a day in the chestnut groves between the Langhe and Liguria with our “The chestnuts from Viola Castello, in Piedmont” anyways.experience.
An untouched world full of history and traditions is waiting for you!
