Description
Did you know that in Piedmont, at the beginning of the 20th century, there were 200,000 hectares of chestnut groves and today only around 10,000 hectares are cultivated?
Over time, this area has experienced the abandonment of the mountains and chestnut groves.
This has led to progressive cultural, social and economic impoverishment, which also endangers the hydrogeological structure of the mountain environments.
The “Adopting a Secular Chestnut Tree” initiative stems from the desire to recover a plot of just over one hectare in the Village of Viola Castello (Cuneo, Piedmont) at a height of about 900 meters above sea level.
Signing the adoption means supporting the care and maintenance of a heritage of 100 centuries-old chestnut trees which can be kept as real monuments of the mountain to be handed down to future generations.
