Adopt a Chestnut Tree in Piedmont

Did you know that at the beginning of the 20th century, Piedmont was home to around 200,000 hectares of fruit chestnut groves, and today, just over 10,000 hectares remain cultivated?
Over time, the abandonment of mountain areas and traditional farming practices has led to the loss of a precious heritage.
Not only environmental, but also cultural, social, and economic, with consequences that still affect the balance of the land and the hydrogeological safety of mountain regions.
Adopting a chestnut tree means helping to protect this fragile balance and contributing to the preservation of a landscape at risk of disappearing.
A centuries-old chestnut grove to protect
This “Adopt a Centuries-Old Chestnut Tree” initiative was born in the village of Viola Castello, in the province of Cuneo, in Piedmont, at about 900 meters above sea level.
Here, Marco takes care of more than 100 centuries-old chestnut trees, ancient trees that tell the story of the mountains and the people who have lived and worked there.
Thanks to adoption, this chestnut grove of just over one hectare can continue to thrive and be preserved as a true natural monument, to be protected and passed on to future generations.
