HOME AND ATELIER
In the past, artisans used to live next to their shops. Years ago, even our own gypsum artisan and her husband made the same choice: their home is also the place where they produce, model, experiment, decorate and strengthen their creativity.
In the historical centre of Gubbio, during the workshop “Home and Atelier” dedicated to the sense of touch, our expert craftsmen will open up their studio and home to share their artistic path of 28 years in a more authentic and profound way.
During their professional careers, they worked on some of the most important restoration works of the Umbrian region. They gained precious experience in the reproduction of friezes and decorative details and collected casts of the eighteenth century still showing the fingerprints of the ancient craftsmen who made them.
GYPSUM WORKSHOP IN GUBBIO
This experience is suitable for all those who wish to learn how to produce a rubber mould starting from an existing model and want to experience the Umbrian culture, together with the local people and professionals.
The workshop will focus on each participant creating their own silicon rubber mould casting of art. This way, it will be like continuing the work of those ancient hands!
The experience will be divided into two parts. The first part will take place in the laboratory. In the second part, we will move on from chalk powder to flour: you will learn how to prepare crescia, a traditional Umbrian dish which typically comes with hand-sliced ham. We will enjoy homemade Tribola wine, an authentic local wine which can be made thanks to the recovery of Umbria’s abandoned vineyards.
After dinner, you will continue working on the moulds and dismantle the cast pieces to compare them with the originals. Who will achieve the best result? The winner will be crowned King of the class.
At the end of this experience, along with the explanatory notes on the techniques and materials used, you will also have acquired a certain autonomy that will allow you to test yourself even at home. Useful references for finding the necessary materials will be provided.
