In the traditional Japanese culture there is a legend according to which the suminagashi was God’s gift to mankind.
During this workshop dedicated to the sense of touch we will talk about an art from far away, i.e. the floating ink. This technique was born in Japan shortly after the year 1000, used to decorate paper using the ink (sumi) that floats (nagashi) on the water.
This technique uses the 4 tools of calligraphy, called the ‘4 treasures’:
Sumi, the ink
Suzuri, the stone inkwell
Fude, the brush
Kami, the card
Guided by an expert, you will create sinuous abstract forms through the vibrations of water that will be imprinted between the fibers of a sheet of plant paper that is floating on water.
This experience will take place in a laboratory in the historical center of the city of Acqui Terme, a charming spa town founded by the ancient Romans between 172 and 109 BC, with landscapes declared a world heritage site by the UNESCO in 2014.
The experience is dedicated to the sense of touch, to ancient art and traditions and will be accompanied by a tasting of local products from the Piedmont area.
