Description
Along with the marranzano, tamburello and quartara, the friscaletto (in Sicilian friscarettu) is one of the typical instruments of Sicilian folk music.
This experience is dedicated to music, in particular to Sicilian folk music. Starting from an easily reachable raw material, like the common reed, you will discover how a typical instrument of popular tradition, the friscaletto, will be brought to life in a very short time. In addition to the friscaletto and the marranzano, you can also closely observe the bagpipes being made.
The experience will take place in a characteristic location, located between the Historical Fish Market, Piazza d’Uomo and the Ursino Castle, with lava cave underground, the result of the eruption of the Etna volcano in 1669. Here, an expert artisan and musician will show you step by step how to make this instrument and what melodies can come from working a piece of cane.
With the sounds of the friscaletto and the marranzano (another typical Sicilian instrument) in the background, the experience will be accompanied by a tasting of typical Sicilian products, just a ten minutes walk away from a wonderful stretch of Sicilian coast, with crystal clear sea and unforgettable sunsets, in the heart of the Mediterranean.
