SICILY IN ORANGE
Happy first Monday of the month!

Come stai? How are you?
Weâre not complaining!
This morning, while wrapping up our February edition of Dolce Vita To-Go, we decided to start the day with a big glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. đ
Intense aroma, bright color, a sweet taste with just a hint of tang.
The sunshine we were missing? We found it right there, in the glass.
On these slightly dull days, between colds, packed schedules, and grey skies, oranges have become our little gentle ritual.
A treat. A pause. A way of saying: today, Iâm taking care of myself.
And when we talk about oranges⌠where does the heart go?
To Sicily, of course.
Here, oranges donât just grow on trees.
Theyâre part of the landscape, the scents, the words, the memories.
They have the color of grandmaâs tablecloths, the smell of laundry drying in the sun, the taste of holiday desserts.
And itâs no coincidence that they play a starring role all over the island.
Every year, at the end of winter, towns come alive with events, festivals, markets, and parades celebrating this generous fruit.
Among the most spectacular:
đ the Orange Festival of Centuripe, with music, art, and folklore
đ the Blood Orange Festival of Sicily, in Palagonia and Francofonte, where you can taste marmalades, nougat, liqueurs, and candied peels
But one thing is certain: an orange is never just an orange.
In fact… if weâre being completely honest, in Italy it can even become the star of a battle.
In Ivrea, for example, during the famous Carnival, oranges fly. Literally.
Itâs the legendary Battle of the Oranges::
a historical reenactment where thousands of people split into teams and âfightâ using oranges.
A chaotic, colorful, wonderfully fragrant ritual that turns the city center into an⌠orange battlefield.
But donât worry: nothing goes to waste!
The oranges used arenât edible and would be discarded anyway.
They come from southern Italy and, after the event, are collected and turned into agricultural compost.
đŚ Want one last fun fact?
This very week, while telling you all this⌠weâre also busy shipping kilos and kilos of oranges all across Europe.
Where to?
Anywhere there are people who love Italy, Sicily⌠and a proper homemade orange juice. đ
Because last year, dozens of enthusiasts (just like us!) decided to become godparents of a Sicilian orange tree.
A symbolic, poetic gesture… but also a very practical one: theyâll receive the fruits directly at home!
Perfect for breakfast juices, grandma-style cakes, candied peels, fennel-and-orange salads⌠with all the Sicilian sunshine inside.
And if youâre starting to feel like joining this “vitamin-filled family”, just know that the trees are only waiting for a name to wear with pride. đłđ
